Biography:

PARSONS, Letitia, formerly DOBLE (1744-1806: findmypast.co.uk)

She was born on 10 Aug. 1744 and baptised on 30 Sept. at Wadhurst, Sussex, the daughter of Walter Doble and his wife Mary. She married John Parsons on 8 July 1764 at Wadhurst. They moved to Hawkhurst, Kent (about 10 miles away), at an unknown date. For the last 22 years of her life she suffered from poor health and went blind in her last years. When she was about thirty she underwent a conversion experience and thereafter wrote religious verse and hymns. She addressed a number of poems to her sister, Mrs. Coe. (Mary Dobble [sic] married Thomas Coe at Wadhurst on 18 Dec. 1784.) She died on 10 August and was buried two days later at St. Laurence with All Saints, Hawkhurst. The second edition of Hymns (1852) combined Verses (1806) and (1808) listed above, adding a new preface.
