Author: Ogilvie, James
Biography:
OGILVIE, James (b 1773: ancestry.co.uk)
BBA identifies him as the son of John Ogilvie (q.v.) and his wife, Margaret (Reid). He was born at Midmar, Aberdeenshire. The Ogilviad was written when he was a student at King’s College, Aberdeen. It was the result of a dispute (possibly over a love affair) with a fellow student; the other student satirised Ogilvie in a poem (“The Ogilviad”), and Ogilvie responded in verse, out-rhyming his opponent. The pamphlet as published includes both attack and response. No other biographical details have come to light. (BBA; ancestry.co.uk 26 May 2020)
