Author: Morrison, John

Biography:

MORRISON, John (fl 1834)

The eldest of four sons born to Sir Richard Morrison, member of the Royal Irish Academy and vice-president of the Royal Institute of Architects, and his wife, Eliza (Ould), grand-daughter of Sir Fielding Ould, eminent Irish physician. Fielding Morrison (q.v.) was one of his brothers; his book is dedicated to another brother, William Vitruvius Morrison, who was an architect. He was born in Clonmel, County Tipperary, in about 1792 and he earned his BA at Trinity College Dublin in 1811. Little else is known. He wrote a biographical account of his brother William which was published in Quarterly Papers on Architecture (1843-44). The Preface to Ella states that he had lived in the south of France and gives his address as Gloucester Street, Dublin. (DIB for Richard Morrison 30 Sept. 2021; ancestry.co.uk 30 Sept. 2021) SR
