Biography:
MORISON, David (fl 1790-1824)
There is no reliable biographical information but he may have been the David Morison who was born to William Morison and his wife Mary Hall at Montrose on 7 Mar. 1764. If so, he married Eliza Mitchel on 8 June 1794; they had a son, William, who was born in 1795. Morison's book is dedicated to the gentlemen of the Montrose Monthly Club and includes a lengthy list of subscribers. BAM comments on the resemblance of the book to the Kilmarnock edition of Burns’s poetry in all aspects but the quality of the verse. The book divides in two; the second half, with a title page from 1790, is a three-act opera, Jack and Sue; or, the Fortunate Sailor. The opera was reprinted at Paisley in 1824.
