MOREHEAD, Robert (1777-1842: ancestry.co.uk)
A Scottish Episcopalian, he was born on 19 Mar. 1777 at Herbertshire, Lanark, to William Morehead and his wife Isabella Lockhart. He was a friend of Francis Jeffrey whom he likely met in Edinburgh before leaving Scotland for Balliol College, Oxford University, in 1795; he gained his BA in 1799 and his AM in 1802, and became minister at St Paul’s Episcopal Chapel, Edinburgh. He married Margaret Wilson on 27 Nov. 1804 and they had four sons and three daughters; two of the sons have entries in the ODNB—one, Charles, was a surgeon and innovative medical practitioner and the other, William, served with the East India Company. He was Dean of Edinburgh (1818-32) and chaplain to Princess Charlotte and Prince Leopold. In 1832 he moved to become rector at Easington, Yorkshire; he died there in the rectory on 13 Dec. 1842 and was buried in the churchyard of All Saints on 19 Dec. His other publications are sermons and discourses. A memoir of him was written by his son Charles (not seen). (ODNB (entry for Charles Morehead) 25 Mar. 2020; ancestry.co.uk 25 Mar. 2020) SR
