MOLLESON, Alexander (fl 1798-1827: SBTI)
He was a Glasgow bookseller with a shop first in Glassford St. and then in Albion St. His earliest publication is probably his 1798 Melody the Soul of Music: an Essay Towards the Improvement of the Musical Art. Other works include: The Critical Bee; or Beauties of New Publications (1805), Beauties of Select Living Poets (1808), and an 1822 prospectus for a book on Hannibal. The Scottish Book Trade Index records him as continuing to trade until 1827. His identity has not been confirmed but he may be the Alexander Molison (sic) who was born at Brechin, Angus, to David Molison and his wife Ann Arbathnot on 4 Feb. 1768. If so he married Agnes Middleton at Glasgow on 24 Dec. 1794; records have been found for one child, Mary, who was born in 1800. No death record has been found. (SBTI; ancestry.co.uk 23 Aug. 2025) SR
