Author: M'Kean, John
Biography:
M'KEAN, John (fl 1808-13)
His surname is also given as McKean and Mackean in catalogues. The title pages have M'Kean. He was a clergyman who almost certainly lived in Edinburgh but no biographical details are known. Although he is identified as "A.M." on title pages, no university records have been located for him. The 1808 edition of Poems further identifies him as V.D.M. (Verbi Dei Minister), meaning that he belonged to a Lutheran or other non-conformist sect. One poem reflects on his time in Ireland. The poems are unsophisticated; the publisher, John Morren, of Poems specialised in chapbooks. Nothing more is known. He is not to be confused with his contemporary, John M'Kean, who was an Edinburgh Writer to the Signet or solicitor and an accountant. (SBTI; ancestry.co.uk 27 Aug. 2025) SR
