Biography:
MILLAR, William (fl 1821-22)
He lived in Dumfriesshire but no certain biographical information has been located. He was a friend of Robert Gilfillan (q.v.) whose poem “Willie Millar o’ the Glen” was first published in Tait’s Edinburgh Magazine in 1833. By the time the poem was reprinted in Gilfillan’s 1851 posthumous Poems and Songs, Millar had died. His book is dedicated to John McDiarmid, editor of the Dumfries and Galloway Courier. McDiarmid included some of Millar's verse in his The Scrap Book, which was first published in 1821 and went to several editions. SR
