Author: McMahon, Simon Crea
Biography:
MCMAHON, Simon Crea (fl 1790-95)
His autobiographical Life and Adventures, published in Richmond VA, dedicated to the Prince of Wales (later George III), and dated 1790 in the preface, is attributed to McMahon as an "Irish American" author. This attribution, together with a tentative birthdate of 1753, appears in WorldCat, which follows the library catalogue entry for the rare extant copy in the Special Collections of Pennsylvania State University, which entry in turn may be partly based on internal evidence. No continuation of the "first part" ever appeared and McMahon (or M'Mahon or MacMahon) left very few traces. Newspapers of the time do however refer to a doctor of this name who was resident in Campbell VA in 1795 and who took part in state politics. (WorldCat; Lynchburg and Farmer's Gazette 11 Apr. 1795; Columbian Centinel [Boston] 18 Apr. 1795)
