Author: McDowall, William
Biography:
MCDOWALL, William (fl 1824-28)
Library catalogues attribute Poems, Chiefly in the Galloway Dialect to William McDowall, journalist and antiquarian. His dates are 1815-88 and he would have been just eleven when the 1826 edition of the book was published. The author must therefore be a different William McDowall but no other Gallovidian has been identified as the author. McDowall or McDouall is a common surname in the area and it is clear from the book that the author lived in Newton Stewart. (ODNB 27 Apr. 2021) SR
