Author: McCracken, Robert

Biography:

MCCRACKEN, Robert (1777-1840: ancestry.com)

His one book was published in Pontiac MI in 1835 with a second edition in 1837, but he had been born in Pennsylvania, the son of Mary Agnes (Hutchinson) and Robert McCracken. His father died in the year of his birth. Nothing is known of his education. He married Eunice Bromley (1793-1835) in Niagara NY in 1819 and they had at least three children, all reccorded in the 1830 census as part of his household in Pontiac, along with an older woman who was presumably his mother, who died that year, or his mother-in-law. After the death of his first wife, he may have married Abigail Nickerson in Nov. 1835, in Oakland County MI--there is a record of her marriage to a man of his name--but the wife recorded in his burial record is Eunice. He died at Pontiac in 1840 and was buried at the Oak Hill cemetery there. (ancestry.com 17 Sept. 2025; findmypast.com 17 Sept. 2025) HJ
