MAXWELL, John (fl 1835)
No certain information has yet been located but he may have been the son of John Maxwell and his wife Elisabeth Macfarlane. If so, he was baptised at Buchany, Perthshire, on 21 Sept. 1805. He is listed in the 1841 Census, living in the same area with his wife, Janet, and five children. His occupation is given as journeyman mason. Bruce castle, the subject of his poem, is a fifteenth-century ruin situated between Stirling and Falkirk. (ancestry.co.uk 5 Feb. 2025) SR
