MARKHAM, Alexander (b c. 1797-1876: ancestry.co.uk)
No information about his place of birth, early life, or his parents has been located. He lived at Randalstown, County Antrim, where he served as quartermaster for the Royal Antrim Rifles. He became a coroner in Antrim. He married Sophia Hulbert Falloon on 7 July 1836 at Cushendall, County Antrim; the location is the setting for his Avenged Bride. They had six sons and two daughters. His ode to celebrate the marriage of Edward, Prince of Wales, was published in the Belfast Newsletter in Apr. 1863. The Avenged Bride was republished with notes as Macdonald; or, The Avenged Bridge in 1875 although the title page gives no mention of the earlier publication. He died at his home of Roseville, Greenisland, Belfast, on 15 July 1876 and was buried in the cemetery at Carrickfergus.
