MANSFIELD, Joseph (1770-1830: ancestry.com)
His parents were Elizabeth (Whittemore) and Richard Mansfield. Born in Lynn MA on 17 Dec. 1770 (or perhaps, as on his gravestone, 1769), he graduated from Harvard in 1801, studied medicine, and spent the rest of his life as a physician and schoolteacher in Groton MA. On 11 June 1805 at Groton he married Abi Hartwell, with whom he had at least eight children. Two of their sons also became physicians. His university prize poem, his only published work, was reprinted in 1821, 1871, and c 1879. He died at Groton on 23 April. 1830.
