Biography:
MANSFIELD, Joseph (1771-1830: Hollis)
His parents were Elizabeth (Whittemore) and Richard Mansfield. Born in Lynn MA, he graduated from Harvard in 1801, studied medicine, and spent the rest of his life as a physician and schoolteacher in Groton MA. In 1805 he married Abi Hartwell, with whom he had at least one son, who also became a physician. His university prize poem, his only published work, was reprinted in 1821, 1871, and c 1879.
