Biography:

MAHONY, Agnes (c. 1802-1833: ancestry.com)

No documentation has been found for the exact dates of her birth and death but circumstantial evidence supports the dates above. She was born at Dromore Castle, County Kerry, Ireland, the only offspring of Col. John Mahony (1756-1817) and his second wife Margaret Godfrey (b 1774), whose marriage took place on 24 Nov. 1801. Her one volume of verse is dedicated to Richard Mahony, Esq., High Sheriff of the County of Kerry, “for whom a few months ago she felt and still wishes to retain, a Sister’s affection”—which is apparently to say, she had only recently met the elder of her two half-brothers. (The younger half-brother, Denis, a minister in the Church of Ireland, built the castle as it is known today, but their father John had begun and abandoned the building work earlier in the century.) She married Robert Conway Hickson of Fermoyle, Kerry, on 1 Sept. 1832 at Dingle, Kerry, but died at the end of 1833 of unknown causes and was buried at Dingle on 2 Jan. 1834.
