MACKEY, James (fl 1819)
His title page identifies him as “once a student of Trinity College” and a James Mackey earned his BA from Trinity College Dublin in 1796. Many of the subscribers were from Limerick, Galway, and County Clare; the list shows Mackey to have been very well-connected. No other certain information has been located but he may have been the James Mackey who was baptised at St. Audeon's in Dublin on 14 Apr. 1766. If so his parents were Darbey and Elizabeth Mackey. Mackey resurfaces in July 1824 when he applied to the RLF for assistance; he was then living in Limerick, Ireland. He was awarded £10. Mackey was planning to publish another book of verse, again by subscription, which would include a poem "Mount Shannon." Although he sent the RLF a list of subscribers, nothing came of the venture. His final letter to the fund is dated 24 Mar. 1829; a note on the letter states that Mackey was already "relieved beyond his claims of authorship." Nothing more is known.
