Author: Mackay, William
Biography:
MACKAY, William (fl 1832)
It is possible that he was the William Mackay born in Birmingham on 13 May 1813 to Thomas and Elizabeth Mackay and first baptised with two younger siblings on 26 Dec. 1819 at Ebenezer Chapel (Independent) but rebaptised in the Church of England at St. Philip’s on 15 Jul. 1829. But a collection of songs and ballads on topical events 1797-1832 seems an odd project for a teen. It is more likely that he was a Scot who for unknown reasons chose to publish in Birmingham. If so, he might also have been the author of Heaven, a Poem (1847), a Miltonic work published in Glasgow. His name is common, however, and no corroborating evidence has been found.
