Author: Lomax, Judith

Biography:

LOMAX, Judith (1774-1828: Hollis)

She was born in Port Tobago VA to Anne Corbin (Tayloe) and Thomas Lomax. They were a well connected family: one of her poems, "Monticello," records a visit to her father's friend Thomas Jefferson there. She did not marry but pursued her evangelical religious interests, living mainly in Port Royal VA as a "lonely Episcopalian." In 1827 she went to live with a sister in Fredericksburg, where she died. Her journal of the years 1818-27 was published in 1999. (The Sabbath Journal of Judith Lomax, 1774-1828, ed. Laura Hobgood-Oster [1999]) HJ
