Biography:

LLOYD, Robert Jones (1800-47: ancestry.co.uk)

He was born at Ardnagovan, County Roscommon, to Robert Jones Lloyd, a magistrate, and his wife Susan Devenish. Nothing is known about his early education but he studied at Trinity College Dublin and had earned his AB by 1828, the year of publication of his only book. He subsequently earned his MA (1830) and his MB (1833). He was licensed as a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland on 30 July 1836. On 24 Aug. 1837 he married Lucy Lyster; they had four sons and one daughter. The family lived in Dublin before moving to Roscommon in about 1842 where he became the surgeon at the newly-founded Roscommon Infirmary. He died “of fever” on 16 May 1847. His book is dedicated to a friend, Francis Greene, and the preface is dated from Prospect, which may refer to the town in County Cavan.
