Biography:

LITTLE, William Swayne (1810-76: ancestry.co.uk)

He was born at Limerick to Thomas Little, a doctor at the Sligo Infirmary, and his wife Charity Margaret (former surname unknown but it may have been Swayne). He entered Trinity College Dublin in 1827, earning his AB and, in 1837, his MB. He was licensed by the Royal College of Surgeons in 1835 and specialised in midwifery although medical articles by him indicate a general practice. He married Marion Georgina Monsarrat in Dublin on 7 July 1837; they had several children with at least one son becoming a doctor and another a clergyman. He spent nine years working as medical officer at the Headford Dispensary in Galway before succeeding his father as officer of health at the Sligo Infirmary in 1849. He was made the medical attendant for the Sligo barracks in 1854. He died at home on 5 Dec. 1876.
