LEWIS, W. (fl 1795)
Although the existence of Court Fees . . . with Other Poems (1795) is attested to by the review in MR 17 (1795), 470-1, the review is very brief and contains no clues as to the identity of the author. No extant copy has been located. The book is dedicated to Peter Pindar, Esq., i.e. to John Wolcot (q.v.). The reviewer maintains that when a copy of these “poems, such as they are,” was delivered to Wolcot, he looked like Hogarth’s picture of “The Enraged Musician,” who puts his hands to his ears and grimaces when faced by a street band.
