Biography:

Lewis, Alonzo (1794-1861: WBIS)

He was born in Lynn MA to Mary (Hudson) and Zachariah Lewis, and spent the whole of his life there. From school he went on to become a schoolteacher, a JP, a newspaper editor, and a civil engineer responsible for maps and a directory of the area. He celebrated Lynn in poetry (three editions of Poems in his lifetime, a volume entitled Love, Forest Flowers, and Sea Shells in 1850, and a selection of Poetical Works edited by one of his descendants in 1883) and in the History of Lynn (1829).
