LESLIE, John (1736-78: ESTC)
O'Donoghue identifies him as tutor to Lord Clanwilliam and gives a death date of 5 Sept. 1778. However, his sources are not identified and no records have been located. A John Leslie or Lesly who is a possible match was a scholar at Trinity College Dublin in 1739 and was awarded his BA in 1740 and MA in 1760. This would give a possible birth year of 1712, not 1736 as in ESTC. The preface to Killarney thanks the Rev. Dr. Bowden and Phoenix Park is dedicated to Earl Harcourt, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland 1772-77. (O’Donoghue; ESTC; Catalogue of Graduates) SR
