Biography:

LEARMONT, John (fl 1791-1820)

There is little certain information. What is known is that he was head gardener to the Duke of Buccleuch at Langholm Lodge. His 1791 book is dated from Dalkeith, Midlothian, and dedicated to Charles, Earl of Dalkeith (he became Duke in 1812); the preface comments on his limited education. Learmont may have lived in Colinton, Midlothian, in later life.
