LATHROP, Barnabas (1738-96: ancestry.com)
Barnabas Lathrop, son of Mary (Hartshorn) and Joseph Lathrop, was born in Norwich CT where his Poetical Meditations was later printed. He married Sarah Davis in Canterbury CT on 7 Jul. 1757. They had six children, one of whom died in infancy. He served as a lieutenant of marines in the US army 1775-85. By 1792 when he made his will, "infirm in body but of sound mind," the family had established itself in New Milford CT, where he died on 10 Apr. 1796. His only other known publication is a short poem (8 pages) of 1782 "on the absurdity and sinfulness of wearing high rolls"--an attack on fashionable hairstyles for women.
