LADD, John (1781-1865: ancestry.com)
Ladd's only published work begins with a versified spiritual journal, starting in 1807, and contains poems dealing with conventional subjects such as sin, friendship, illness, and grace. The book is dated 1813 from Amsterdam NY and was printed in Schenectady NY in 1814. There is an extensive list of subscribers from those two towns. He was almost certainly the John Ladd, son of Wealthia and John Joseph Ladd, who was born in Franklin CT on 10 Apr. 1781 and baptised there on 3 Nov. The family moved to Amsterdam NY at some point between 1793 and 1798. Census records indicate that Ladd was a farmer. He married twice, in 1813 (Lydia Abell) and 1839 (Julina Turner), and had a large family. By 1838, when his first wife died, he had moved two hundred miles away to farm in Henrietta NY. He died at Henrietta on 6 May 1865 and was buried in the East Baptist cemetery there. His second wife Julina outlived him by only a few months. Both wives are buried in the same cemetery.
