Biography:

KIRKPATRICK, Francis (b c. 1730: ancestry.co.uk)

Nothing is known about his parents, but the title page of his book identifies him as of Aughnahoe [House], near Aughnacloy, County Tyrone. A website about the Kirkpatrick family of Errigal Keerogue parish where Aughnahoe is located gives his birth year and states that he married Sarah Thompson with whom he had two sons. He evidently had close connections to the military; some of the subscribers are from the Aughnahoe infantry and his book includes a first-hand account of the 1798 battle at Enniscorthy from a member of the Wexford militia. Although the title page claims the book is “an impartial account,” it is hardly that and is dedicated to the Orangemen. Its centrepiece is a long poem, “The Conspiracy.” It also includes a prose account of the French Revolution and Buonaparte, “The Revival of Antichrist,” and a chronology of events in Ireland 1757-1803.
