Author: Kendall, A.

Biography:

KENDALL, A. (fl 1798-1806)

Kendall or Kendal was her married name; her first name is not known. In 1798 alone she published two novels, one of which, Derwent Priory, had first been serialized in magazines. Between 1798 and 1806 she published four novels, a volume of poetry, a conduct book for young readers entitled The School for Parents, and--according to Allibone, but his record is unconfirmed--a collection of "Essays addressed to Young Women" (1801). The novels were reprinted in Ireland and some of them were translated into French or German. One of them is dated from Isleworth, on the outskirts of London; otherwise the author gives away very little information about herself. ESTC identifies her as "active 1798-1816"--the latter date no doubt because her name appears in Watkins. (EN1, EN2; Allibone; ESTC; WorldCat; Watkins) HJ
