Biography:

JUDSON, Roswell (1769-1835: WBIS)

The son of Ann (Mills) and Colonel Agur Judson of Stratford CT, he graduated from Yale in 1787 and won a scholarship to stay on and study law for three years. He had a law practice in Stratford. He and his wife Sarah (maiden name not known) had at least two children, but a daughter died in infancy and a son suffered from a mental disorder. Judson himself is said to have been both insane and alcoholic in his later years. Apart from the one occasional poem in this bibliography, his publications consisted of polemical pamphlets, mainly in a dispute about universal salvation. (Dexter) HJ
