Author: Jordan, William

Biography:

JORDAN, William (fl 1793-1824)

The author of The Field of Waterloo: A Poem (1816) was almost certainly born in Ireland. He made the acquaintance of the natural philosopher William Martin (ODNB) when both men were soldiers in the Kilkenny militia (formed 1793). Without citing a source, the Naval & Military Archive (nmarchive.com) identifies him as a private in the 33d regiment of foot. His Waterloo Medal was auctioned in 1965. The Boston Public Library’s copy of Jordan’s poem was published at Alnwick in 1824. (nmarchive.com 31 Dec. 2023; T. Balston, The Life of Jonathan Martin [1945], 128; Spink Numismatic Circular 93 [1965], 96) JC
