JONES, Joseph (1781-1856: ancestry.co.uk)
A very prolific writer on religious matters, he was born at Long Hope, Gloucestershire, to the Rev. David Jones and his wife Elizabeth. He was baptised on 14 June 1781. He matriculated at Jesus College, Oxford, in 1800 and earned his BA (1803) and MA (1807). Jones was ordained in 1805 and served as curate at Newchurch near Warrington. On 15 Jan. 1817 he married Elizabeth Joanna Cooper in St. Peter's, Derby; Jones is identified in the marriage record as "clergyman of Winwick in Lancaster." They had two sons. Jones was appointed perpetual curate at Repton in 1843; the 1851 Census shows him living at Bower Hill in Repton with Elizabeth and Stephen, one of the sons. He died at home in Bower Hill, Repton, on 23 Oct. 1856.
