Biography:

Jones, Charles A. (1815-1851: ancestry.com)

His middle name may have been Allibone. He was born in Philadelphia--the names of his parents are not known--but the family moved to Cincinnati OH while he was a child. He was a precocious contributor to periodicals; The Outlaw (1835) is described in the Preface as also having been written at an early age. From 1836 to 1840 he contributed to several local periodicals, among them the Cincinnati Mirror, the Cincinnati Message, and the Cincinnati Gazette: in the last, a series of satirical poems collectively called "Aristophaneana" attracted attention particularly. In 1843 he married Charlotte Ludlow, with whom he had two children. He studied law, was called to the bar, and established a practice in New Orleans LA but declining health brought him back to Cincinnati in 1851. He died on his in-laws' estate in Mill Creek township and was buried in Cincinnati. A biographical notice by a fellow-contributor to the Western Monthly of Cincinnati is the most reliable source of information about him. (William D.
