A Boston author of only one book, he left few other traces of his identity. The most likely match is Nathaniel P. Johnston, born in South Boston c. 1810, who was a member of the South Boston Temperance Society in 1833. He later moved to Brookline and is recorded in the State Census of 1850 and 1855 as sharing a household with three women who, from their ages and surnames, must have been his mother, sister, and wife.
