JOHNSTON, Frank (1816-63: Biographical and Historical Record)
Francis K. Johnston, known as "Frank," son of Ann (Poyntell) and Alexander Washington Johnston, was born in Philadelphia on 31 Oct. 1816. He graduated from Yale in 1835 and then went to Harvard Law School. After establishing a legal practice in Pittsburgh, he married Mary E. Anderson in 1842. They had at least three children. According to one of their sons, who went into business in Pittsburgh himself, Johnston devoted his leisure time in later years to study, especially of Greek authors.
