Biography:

HURLBURT, Ozias (1741-1820: ancestry.com)

His parents, Jonathan and Sarah (Orton) Hurlburt, farmed in Cornwall CT where Ozias was born, the eldest of four children. In 1762 he enlisted in McNeil's Company of the Connecticut Militia, based in nearby Litchfield. In 1770 he married Hannah Butler. The couple had four children and remained in Cornwall until 1817, when they moved to Castleton, New York, to live with one of their sons. They died there and are both buried in the Butcher Cemetery in Seneca NY. A member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Cornwall, Hurlburt was self-educated, with a particular interest in theology. His only other publication is an exposition of a passage in Corinthians, A Treatise on Death and the Resurrection (1815).
