Biography:
Huntington, Daniel (1788-1858: WBIS)
He was the son of General Jedidiah (or Jedediah) Huntington and his second wife, Anne (Moore) Huntington, and was born in Norwich CT. The family soon after moved to New London CT, where his father had been appointed Collector of Customs. He graduated from Yale in 1807, studied divinity, was ordained in 1812, and served as Pastor of the Congregational Church in North Bridgewater MA from 1812 to 1832. Obliged by ill health to give up his duties in the church, he taught for some years at a school for young ladies in New London. As his health improved, he returned to occasional preaching and then, from 1840 to 1853, to a fulltime post in a church in Campello MA. With Mary Hallam (d 1822), whom he married in 1812, he had three children and with Alma French (d 1837), married in 1823, five more; three of the children died young. His third wife, Sarah Sage Rainey of New London, whom he married in 1841, outlived him. His other publications are sermons, discourses, and biographical memoirs--including one of Mary Hallam. He died in New London. (Appleton [under Jabez Huntington]; Dexter; ancestry.com 11 May 2019)
