Humphrey, Asa (1778-1862: ancestry.com)

The Preface to his single publication explains the circumstances: a dispute over the school in Weymouth MA, where he had been appointed to teach but the former teachers--two brothers and a sister from a family named Briggs--had attempted to undermine his reputation. He was a local, born in Weymouth to Deborah (Tirrell or Terrell) Humphrey and James Humphrey (q.v.). He stayed on in Weymouth at least till 1809, when he married Mary Maxim of Carver MA. The family, with eight children eventually, settled in Carver, where both parents are buried. (ancestry.com 3 May 2019)
