Biography:

HOPKINS, Joseph R. (1781-1834: ancestry.com)

He published as Joseph R.; the middle name was probably Richardson. He was born, lived, and died in Philadelphia. His parents, John and Catharine Hopkins, were Quakers. Hopkins was called to the Philadelphia Bar in 1804 and his literary career was confined to the one poem published in that year. Elsewhere, his name occurs in legal records, notably in the reports of a case that concerned the community of Quakers in Philadelphia in 1810. No record of a marriage has been found.
