Biography:
HOLMES, Mary, formerly STILES (1767-95: ancestry.com)
One of the eight children of Ezra Stiles (1727-95, q.v.) and Elizabeth (Hubbard) Stiles, she was born in Newport RI and known in the family as "Polly." She married the Rev. Abiel Holmes in 1790. From 1792 to 1829 he was the minister of the First Church in Cambridge MA. But they had no children and she died in 1795. Her husband edited the posthumous collection of verse, A Family Tablet, that included some of her poems under the pseudonym Myra. (ancestry.com 22 Oct. 2020)
