Author: Head, Michael

Biography:

HEAD, Michael (fl 1814)

This author has not been identified but, although the title page of his one book identifies him as "Esq.," he may have been the man of the same name who served in the military. If so he became a cornet in the 12th Light Dragoons in 1785. He rose steadily through the ranks and served in the Mediterranean, Corsica, and Portugal. He returned to Britain in 1813 when he was made Major General. In 1815 he was a Lieutenant Colonel. He may have been born in Ireland. His book was printed by James Ballantyne in Edinburgh for Archibald Constable, suggesting that he had a connection with the city. (John Phillipart, Royal Military Calendar [1814]) SR
