Biography:
HARDIE, James (c 1750-1832: WBIS)
Born in Scotland and a graduate of Marischal College in Aberdeen, he emigrated to New York City and taught at Columbia College from 1787 to 1790 but became "poor and dissipated" (Appleton) and later made a living as an employee of the Board of Health and freelance writer: he published on universal biography, on outbreaks of fevers, on the craft of letter-writing, on the treadmill, and on the history of New York itself. He died in New York. (Appleton) HJ
