HAMILTON, George (1757-1832: ancestry.co.uk)

He was born on 15 May 1757 at Bolton, East Lothian, to John Hamilton and Jean (Wright) Hamilton. Educated at the University of Glasgow, he earned his MA in 1775 and DD in 1804; he served as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1805. He married Elizabeth Dickson on 24 Apr. 1790, the same year he was appointed minister of the church at Gladsmuir—a post he held until his death on 4 Sept. 1832. He was buried in the churchyard at Gladsmuir with Elizabeth who had predeceased him on 6 July 1825. (ancestry.co.uk 14 Feb. 2019; findmypast.co.uk 15 Jan, 2025) SR
