Author: Hamilton, Adam

Biography:

HAMILTON, Adam (fl 1795)

The only record of his life appears to be the internal evidence of his one publication. He was a Christian minister involved in sexual scandal. His poem is a confession and plea for forgiveness that aims, with fulsome repentance and warnings of the consequences of succumbing to "carnal lusts," to make up for the damage done to the church. It ends with a valediction to the author's co-religionists from their "base backslidden but I hope restored brother." HJ
