GREENFIELD, Andrew (1749-88: ancestry.co.uk)
Born at Dalkeith to John Greenfield and his wife, Grisel (Cockburn), he was the elder brother of William Cockburn Greenfield (ODNB). His posthumous Poems states that he was educated at the Universities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Oxford: records have been located only for Oxford where he matriculated at Balliol College in 1768 and earned his BA 1771 and MA 1774. He was appointed to the parish of Moira, County Down, and he died there and was buried in the churchyard. He left a widow and children: his wife’s name may have been Angel Atkinson and his children were two daughters. He also published an elegy for Dr John Gregory (father of James Gregory [q.v.]), published in the London Magazine 42 [1773], 201. His Poems, issued posthumously, were undoubtedly issued in an attempt to raise funds for his widow and children. (ancestry.co.uk 6 May 2020; ODNB [William Greenfield] 6 May 2020) SR
