GREENE, Thomas (d 1779?)

His surname is also given as Green but little is known about this author who lived in Ware, Hertfordshire. He may have been the Thomas Green of Ware who died in 1779 and left his estate to his four children and his wife Susanna. That Thomas Green had married Susanna Mason in Ware on 29 May 1755. His book of hymns and poems went to two editions, both posthumous, with twenty-three years separating their publication. MR commented that the author was “much devoted to Methodistic piety, and Methodistic poetry.” One of his poems is on the death of the Rev. Joseph Grigg (d 1768) who was a minister at the Presbyterian church in Silver Street, London.  (ancestry.co.uk 13 Nov. 2024; MR 64 [1781], 70) SR
