Biography:
GREEN, Samuel Frederick (1805-38: ancestry.co.uk)
He was born on 12 May 1805 and baptised 8 Sept. at St. Clement Danes, Strand, London, the third of ten children of James Green, proprietor of Green’s Hotel, Lincoln’s Inn, and his wife Anne Elizabeth Poulton, who had married at St. James, Piccadilly, in 1802. He was articled 1822-26 and became a solicitor. He married Emma Thornton on 4 Jan. 1832 at St. Andrew’s, Holborn. She was the subject of the final two poems in the collection listed here, somewhat incongruously placed after “Marriage by Mammon.” They had three children, all baptised at St. Mary Abbots, Kensington, although they lived at Portugal Street, Westminster, near his practice at Took’s Court, Lincoln’s Inn. He died at his father’s residence, Brandenburgh Place, Hammersmith, on 11 Apr. 1838 and was buried at St. Paul’s, Hammersmith. He does not appear to have published further. Emma Green survived him and remarried in Paris in 1864. (ancestry.co.uk 21 Jul. 2022; findmypast.co.uk 21 Jul. 2022; Evening Mail 13 Apr. 1838) AA
