Author: Green, George

Biography:

GREEN, George (fl 1826)

He was a resident of Newcastle, Northumberland, but nothing more is known for certain about this author. His The Trial of Constancy contains just one poem which runs to twelve pages. He may have been the George Green, son of William and Ann Green, who was born in Wallsend, Northumberland, on 7 Dec. 1789 and baptised on 28 Nov. 1790. If so, he married a widow Jane (Snowball) Delap on 9 Oct. 1824 in Newcastle; they had two sons and two daughters. The 1851 Census identifies him as a coal agent. His name appears in the 1861 Census when he was a widower living with two adult children but no death notice has yet been located. However, the George Green who wrote The Trial of Constancy may be another man entirely. (ancestry.co.uk 11 Nov. 2024)
