Author: Grantham, George

Biography:

GRANTHAM, George (1798-1857?: findmypast.co.uk)

The son of George Grantham, a boot maker, and his wife Mary, he was baptised at St. John the Baptist church, New Windsor, Berkshire, on 3 Dec. 1798. He is probably the George Grantham who married Mary Bennet at Saint Mary Magdalen church, London, in 1823. His father died in 1826 and an advertisement from Apr. of that year announced that the boot making business would be carried on by his sons, George and John. However, by the time of the 1841 Census George Grantham was living in Somers Town, London, with Mary and a son, George; his occupation is given as “reporter.” In 1851 the family, consisting of the parents with three children, was living at 95 Buckingham Street, London. Likely the author was the George Grantham who died in London in 1857. (ancestry.co.uk 22 Oct. 2024; findmypast.co.uk 22 Oct. 2024; Windsor and Eton Express 15 Apr. 1826)
