Biography:
GRAHAM, Thomas (fl 1826)
Although the author was undoubtedly resident in or near North Shields, Northumberland, nothing more is known about him. His poem is written in dialect. Two farmers, Matty and Davie, debate the Northumberland election of 1826 and eventually decide in favour of the Tory candidates, particularly Matthew Bell, a local coal owner and sheriff. The Tories won the election which was closely fought. (ecppec.ncl.ac.uk 13 Nov. 2024)
