Some information about her comes from the Preface, signed “J.S.”, to her book; her first name may also be given as Jemima. She was born in 1806, the daughter of Robert Gordon, and was just twelve when she died of “water in the head” at home in Minto Street, Edinburgh, on 4 Dec. 1818.
